apocalipsis

/apokaˈlibsis/ · B2 · noun · mf

revelation

🌋☄️ From Greek apo- (un-) + kalyptein (cover) = uncovering, a revelation

Apocalipsis comes from Greek apokálypsis, 'uncovering'. Apo- means off or away, and kalyptein means to cover. It first named the biblical Book of Revelation, where hidden things are revealed, and later came to mean world-ending catastrophe.
