aparecer = appear + Spanish -ecer; both from Latin apparere
English appear and Spanish aparecer are cognates from Latin apparere (ad- to + parere to show up). Spanish added the -ecer verb ending, as in parecer (to seem) and desaparecer (to disappear). Swap -ecer for nothing and you nearly have appear.
