altura

/alˈtuɾa/ · B1 · noun · f

height

🏔️ altura = alto (tall) + -ura: tall-ness, like English altitude

From Latin altus (high), the same root as English altitude and altar. Spanish adds -ura to adjectives to make nouns: alto → altura, as dulce → dulzura. Plural las alturas means the heights, and by extension heaven.
