alerta

/aˈleɾta/ · B1 · adv

alert, vigilant

🚨 From Italian all'erta: to the high ground, where lookouts stand guard

Italian soldiers were told stare all'erta, to stay up on the high ground and watch. Spanish turned that into one word, alerta, and English borrowed it too as alert. So the Spanish and English words mean the same thing.
