accent

🗣️ Latin accentus = ad + cantus: the song added to speech

Spanish uses acento for both meanings, just like English accent. Both come from Latin ad (to) + cantus (song): first the rise and fall of the voice, later the mark written over a vowel. The written mark is also called a tilde.
