켜다

kyeoda · TOPIK 1

to turn on (a light or device)

💡 sounds like key-oh-da: turn the KEY and the light comes on

켜 (kyeo) starts like the English word key. A key switches on an engine, and 켜다 switches on a lamp, TV or phone. Its opposite is 끄다 (kkeuda), to turn off, so learn them as a pair: 켜다 on, 끄다 off.
