⚖️ 重要 = heavy + essential: what carries weight is important
중 (重) means heavy, as in 체중 (body weight). 요 (要) means essential or needed, as in 필요 (necessity). Add 하다 to make it a descriptive verb: to be heavy-and-essential, i.e. to be important. English does the same with weighty matters.
