저쪽 = 저 (that, over there) + 쪽 (side, direction)
저 marks something far from both speaker and listener; 쪽 means side or direction. The same pattern gives 이쪽 (this side) and 그쪽 (that side, near you). Swap the first syllable and the distance changes.
