😭 ulda sounds like ooh-l-da: the long OOH of a wail, plus verb ending -da
The stem 울 (ul) starts with the same drawn-out oo sound people make when sobbing. 다 (-da) is just the dictionary ending on every Korean verb. So 울다 = the wailing sound + the verb marker.
