🍳 요리 (料理, cooking) + 하다 (to do) = to do cooking
요리 comes from the hanja 料理: 料 (ingredients, materials) + 理 (to manage, put in order). Cooking is literally managing your ingredients. Add 하다 (to do) and the noun becomes the verb. Same word as Japanese ryōri.
