👈 왼쪽 = 왼 (left) + 쪽 (side); oen sounds like when: when in doubt, go left
쪽 means side or direction and shows up in 오른쪽 (right side), 이쪽 (this way), 저쪽 (that way). 왼 comes from an old verb 외다, to be crooked or wrong: the left was the off hand, while 오른 (right) comes from 옳다, to be correct.
