어떻게 = 어떻 (be how, from 어떠하다) + 게 (-ly): literally how-ly
어떻다 is the adjective meaning to be how / to be what way, contracted from 어떠하다. Adding the adverb ending -게 turns it into in what way, i.e. how. Same -게 as in 크게 (bigly, greatly) and 쉽게 (easily).
