시작하다

sijakhada · TOPIK 1

to start, to begin

🏁 始作 = begin + make, plus 하다 (to do): to do a beginning-making

시작 comes from hanja 始 (begin, as in Chinese 开始) and 作 (make, as in 作业/工作). Add 하다, the do-verb, and the noun start becomes the verb to start. Sound hook: si-jak is the shove that kicks things off.
