🎁 膳物 = meal (膳) + thing (物): originally food offered as a gift
선 (膳) means a prepared meal or delicacy, and 물 (物) means thing, the same 물 as in 동물 (animal) and 건물 (building). A gift was once a dish of fine food presented to someone; the word later widened to any present.
