끄다

kkeuda · TOPIK 1

to turn off, to extinguish

💡🔥 kkeu-da sounds like KO-da: you KO the light or the fire

The tense kk is an abrupt, cut-off sound, like the click of a switch. 끄다 covers both switching off devices (불을 끄다, turn off the light) and putting out flames. Its opposite is 켜다 (kyeoda), to turn on.
