그렇지만 is 그렇다 (to be like that) plus the ending -지만 (but, although). Literally: that is so, but. The ㅎ merges with ㅈ to give the ch sound in geureo-chi-man. The same -지만 attaches to any verb: 하지만, 좋지만.
