🎓 敎授 = teach + give: the one who hands out teaching
교 (敎) means teach, as in 교실 classroom and 교육 education. 수 (授) means give or confer, as in 수업 lesson. A professor is literally someone who gives teaching. Same hanja as Chinese 教授 jiàoshòu and Japanese 教授 kyōju.
