거기 = 거 (that) + 기 (place): that place near you, there
Korean has a three-way set: 여기 (here), 거기 (there, near the listener), 저기 (over there). 거기 comes from 그 (that) + 어긔 (place), contracted. Swap the first syllable and the rest stays the same.
