🐦🌳 集 = bird 隹 + tree 木: birds gather on a tree, so a gathered collection

The old form 雧 had three birds on a tree, meaning a flock gathering. As a suffix, ~集 marks a compiled set: 詩集 (shishuu) is a poetry collection, and 写真集 (shashinshuu) is a photo book. Shuu rhymes with you: you gather it all.

集 — bird 隹 on top of tree 木
集 is an ideograph showing a bird (隹) perched on a tree (木). The original form depicted three birds gathering on a tree, later simplified to one. From 'birds flocking together' it extended to mean 'gather, collect, assemble,' and by extension 'collection' or 'volume' of writings.
