🏷️ 産 = give birth, produce; 日本産 = born in Japan, so made in Japan
産 on its own means to give birth or to produce, as in 産む (umu, to give birth) and 生産 (seisan, production). Put it after a place, as in 北海道産 (Hokkaidō-san), and the label says where the product was born.
