~みたい
~みたい · ~mitai · JLPT N2 · noun
like
👀 From 見たようだ (mita yō da) = as if seen: what you see is what it's like
みたい comes from 見た (mita, 'saw', from 見る 'to see') + ようだ ('seems'). Put it after a noun or a verb: 猫みたい = like a cat, 雨みたい = looks like rain. It's casual, and in speech it does the same job as ようだ.
