⚖️ ほう = 方, side: AのほうがBより大きい = A's side is bigger than B
ほう is written 方, meaning side or direction. To compare two things, you pick a side: AのほうがBより高い means that on A's side, it is taller than B. よりほう is how you say you'd rather go with this side.
