風

かぜ · kaze · JLPT N5 · noun

wind

🍃 kamikaze = kami (god) + kaze (wind): the divine wind

You already know this word from kamikaze, literally god-wind, the typhoons said to have wrecked the Mongol fleets. Drop the kami and kaze alone is plain wind. Bonus: 風邪 (a cold) is also read kaze, as if an ill wind got into you.
