頂く

humble expression for もらう --
🍚 頂 = summit: you lift the gift above your head to receive it humbly
頂 means the top of the head or a peak. Receiving something by raising it over your head was a gesture of respect, so 頂く (itadaku) became the humble verb for receive, eat and drink. Same root as いただきます, said before meals.
