🎵🎻 音楽 = sound (音) + enjoyment (楽): music is sound you enjoy
音 (on) means sound, as in 発音 (pronunciation). 楽 (gaku) means music or ease, and also reads raku/tano- as in 楽しい (fun). So ongaku is literally enjoyable sound. English borrowed the idea too: karaoke's oke is short for orchestra.
