🌾🏠 農家 = farming (農) + house/family (家): a farming household
農 (nō) means agriculture, as in 農業 nōgyō, farming. 家 (ka) means house or family, and also a person devoted to a craft, as in 作家 sakka, writer. So 農家 is both the family that farms and the farmer.
家 — roof 宀 + pig 豕
Originally a pictograph of a pig under a roof, since domesticated pigs were kept in or under the home in ancient China. Over time the meaning broadened from 'household' to 'family,' and by extension 'home' or a specialist (as in 专家, 'expert').
