超す

こす · kosu · JLPT N3 · verb-godan

to pass

🏃 超 = super/ultra + す; kosu sounds like coast past: go beyond

超 is the ultra- or super- kanji, as in 超人 (superman). Kosu also sounds a bit like cross: you cross a line or pass a limit. It also means getting through a hard time, like 冬を越す (to get through the winter).

超 — 走 (run) + 召 (summon, phonetic)
A semantic-phonetic compound: 走 'run' gives the meaning of moving past or going beyond, while 召 'summon' supplies the sound. The original sense was to leap or stride over something, which extended to 'surpass' and 'exceed'.
