諮る

🗣️🤝 諮 = 言 speech + 咨 ask: words passed from one mouth to the next
咨 is 次 next + 口 mouth, so each person speaks in turn. Hakaru sounds the same as 測る, to measure, and consulting is weighing opinions. You use it for formal deliberation, e.g. 会議に諮る, to put a matter before a meeting.
