💬 語 word (as in 日本語) + 句 phrase (as in 俳句 haiku) = words and phrases

語 (go) is the language kanji in 日本語 and 英語. 句 (ku) is the verse kanji in 俳句 haiku. Put them together and you get the building blocks of speech: words and phrases.

句 — 勹 (wrap) + 口 (mouth/enclosure)
Originally a pictograph showing a hook or curve enclosing something, depicting a bend or turn. The form combines 勹 (wrap) around 口, suggesting words bound together. It later came to mean a complete sentence or phrase, the basic unit of bounded speech.
