詩人 — poet

✒️📜 詩人 = poem (詩) + person (人): a poem-person

詩 (shi) means poem or poetry, and 人 (jin) means person. Japanese often builds job words this way: 詩 itself joins 言 (words) with 寺 (temple), so a poet is literally a person of crafted words.

人 — pictograph of a standing person
人 is a pictograph showing a person viewed from the side, with two strokes representing the legs and torso of a standing human. In oracle bone script it clearly depicted a figure leaning slightly forward. The meaning has remained 'person' or 'human' throughout its history.
