🥋 訓練 = instruct + drill: teaching that gets repeated until it sticks
訓 (kun) means to teach or instruct, built from 言 words plus 川 river: guidance that flows. 練 (ren) means to refine; it first meant boiling raw silk until soft. It also appears in 練習 renshū, practice.
