見事
みごと · migoto · JLPT N3 · na-adj
magnificent
🎆 見 see + 事 thing = a thing worth seeing, so splendid
見事 joins 見 (see, look) and 事 (thing, matter). Something splendid is a sight worth seeing. For the sound, migoto is close to me go, too!, which is what you shout when a show is that good. People also say 見事! alone to mean bravo or well done.
事 — hand 又 holding a banner/tablet on a pole
Originally a pictograph of a hand (又) grasping a pole or ceremonial banner used by an official, depicting the act of conducting court business. From this it came to mean 'affair, matter, business, service.' It shares an ancient origin with 史 (scribe) and 吏 (official).
