膳
ぜん · zen · JLPT N3 · noun
table
🍱 月 meat + 善 good = good food on a tray; ぜん like a Zen temple meal
The left part 月 is the flesh/meat radical and 善 means good, so the character started out meaning fine food served to someone. In Japanese it covers the meal and the small tray-table it comes on, as in お膳. Temple meals are also served on 膳, which links it to the Zen sound.
