結ぶ

むすぶ · musubu · JLPT N3 · verb-godan

to tie

🪢🍙 結 = 糸 thread + 吉 good luck; same root as omusubi, rice bound into a ball

The thread radical 糸 marks words about tying and connecting. Omusubi, the rice ball, comes from musubu: rice pressed and bound together. Musubu also links abstract things, as in 契約を結ぶ, to conclude a contract.
