紐

ひも · himo · JLPT N3 · noun

string

🪢 糸 thread + 丑 sound part = cord; himo: he moored the boat with a cord

The left side 糸 is the thread radical, found in many words for strings and fabric. 丑 mostly gives the sound (on'yomi chū). For himo, say it as a hook: he moored it with a himo. Also seen in 紐帯 (bond, tie).
