築く
きずく · kizuku · JLPT N3 · verb-godan
to build
🧱🏯 ki (old word for fort) + tsuku (to pile up): piling up a fort = to build
築く is usually traced to ki 城, an old word for a stockade or fort, plus tsuku, to pound or pile up earth. Building walls led to the wider sense: to establish a career, a relationship or a fortune. The kanji puts 竹 (bamboo) on top of 筑.
