磁気

じき · jiki · JLPT N3 · noun

magnetism

🧲 磁気 = magnet (磁) + energy/air (気): the energy a magnet gives off

磁 has the stone radical 石, because the first magnets were lodestones that pull on iron. 気 is the same ki as in 電気 (electricity) and 天気 (weather), meaning an unseen force. Say jiki: the stone's ki.
