🌍 現実 = appear (現) + real/substance (実): what actually shows up as real
現 (gen) means to appear or be present, as in 現在 (now) and 表現 (expression). 実 (jitsu) means real, true, or fruit, as in 事実 (fact). What appears and is real is reality. Its opposite is 理想 (risō), the ideal.
