🔥🪵 燃 = 火 fire + 然; moeru ≈ more — a fire always wants more fuel
然 itself once meant to burn: 月 meat + 犬 dog + 灬 fire, a roast. When 然 was borrowed to mean so/thus, an extra 火 was added to keep the burning sense. Compare 燃料 (ねんりょう), fuel.
