焚く

たく · taku · JLPT N3 · verb-godan

to build a fire

🔥🪵 焚 = 林 woods stacked on 火 fire: wood over flame means to burn

The kanji puts 林 (two trees, i.e. firewood) on top of 火 (fire). For the sound, taku rhymes with stack-u: you stack the wood, then taku it. Don't mix it up with 炊く, also read taku, which means to cook rice.
