🌡️ 気温 = air + warm: how warm the air outside is
気 (ki) means air or atmosphere, and 温 (on) means warm, the same on as in 温泉 onsen, hot spring. So 気温 is the warmth of the air, used only for weather. For the temperature of a thing like water or food, use 温度 (ondo).
