気持ち
きもち · kimochi · JLPT N4 · noun
feeling
気持ち = 気 (spirit, energy) + 持ち (holding): the spirit you hold
気 is ki, the inner energy or mood, and 持ち comes from 持つ (motsu), to hold or carry. So kimochi is literally the ki you are carrying right now, which is your feeling or mood. 気持ちいい means that carried ki is good: it feels nice.
持 — hand 扌 + temple 寺 (phonetic)
持 is a semantic-phonetic compound. The hand radical 扌 carries the meaning 'to hold' or 'grasp', while 寺 supplies the sound (it once read close to chí). Originally depicting a hand holding something firmly, it broadened to mean 'maintain', 'support', or 'keep' over time.
