毎月

まいげつ; まいつき · maigetsu; maitsuki · JLPT N5 · adverb

monthly

📅🌙 毎月 = every (毎) + month/moon (月): every month

毎 means every, as in 毎日 (every day) and 毎年 (every year). 月 is moon, hence month. Two readings: maitsuki (native, everyday) and maigetsu (Sino-Japanese, more formal). Sound hook: my-tsuki, my moon comes round every month.

月 — pictograph of crescent moon
月 is a pictograph of a crescent moon, chosen over a full circle to distinguish it from 日 (sun). The inner strokes originally depicted the moon's shadow or markings. As a radical it often relates to the moon, time, or (via a lookalike form of 肉 'flesh') body parts.
