模様 = model/mould 模 + appearance 様: a look made from a model
模 (mo) means model or mould, as in 模型 mokei, a scale model. 様 (you) means appearance or manner, as in 様子 yousu. Put together: a look copied from a template, a repeated design. Also used for how things look, e.g. 空模様 soramoyou, the look of the sky.
