👀 様子 = 様 manner/way + 子 noun suffix: the way things are

様 means manner or form, the same 様 as in 様々 (various) and the honorific -sama. 子 here is just a suffix that makes a noun. Together they mean how something looks or seems, as in 様子を見る: to wait and see how things go.

子 — pictograph of a baby/child with arms out
子 began as a pictograph of a swaddled infant with a large head and outstretched arms, originally meaning 'baby' or 'child.' From there it broadened to 'son,' 'offspring,' and a respectful suffix for masters like 孔子 (Confucius). It also became one of the twelve earthly branches.
