植木

うえき · ueki · JLPT N2 · noun

shrub

植木 — shrub

🪴🌳 植木 = plant + tree: trees planted on purpose, in a garden or a pot

植 (u-eru, to plant) gives the u-, and 木 (ki, tree) gives the -eki. Together they mean a tree someone planted, like a garden shrub or a potted plant. That's different from a wild tree in a forest.
