有無
うむ · umu · JLPT N3 · noun
no
有無 = have (有 u) + have-not (無 mu): present or absent
有 means to have or exist, and 無 means nothing or none. Put them together and you get the question 'is it there or not?' You see this in forms, e.g. 経験の有無 (whether you have experience).
有 — hand 𠂇 + moon/meat 月
Originally depicted a hand holding a piece of meat (月 here is the 'meat' radical, not moon), expressing the idea of possessing something. Over time the meaning broadened from 'to hold/possess' to the general sense of 'to have' or 'there is/exists'.
