暮れる

to get dark
🌇 暮 = sun (日) sinking into grass: the day gets dark and ends
暮 stacks grass (艹), sun (日) and big (大) over a second sun (日): the sun going down behind the grass. From dusk comes the wider sense of anything running out, as in 年が暮れる, the year draws to a close.
