🏡 暮らす = pass the day till dusk, so 暮らし = how you live day to day
暮 has 日 (sun) sinking under 艹 (grass); it is the evening kanji, as in 暮れる, to grow dark. 暮らす first meant to get through the day until nightfall, and 暮らし is the daily living that comes from it.
