明かり

あかり · akari · JLPT N3 · noun

light

🏮💡 明 = sun 日 + moon 月, both bright; akari shares a root with akarui, bright

The kanji 明 joins the sun 日 and the moon 月, the two things that light the sky. The noun akari comes from the same root as the adjective akarui (bright), so akari is simply the bright thing: a lamp's glow or light in general.
